End of Season

Well it's the end of another season and we finished 10th. Not bad after a fairly poor start and flirting with relgation to the Blue Square but not good in terms of the hype, expectation and aspirations last summer. The lack of consistency has been the major problem. The fact that Stuart has cleared out 13 players says it all really. We were not good enough even at this level.

Some dreadful home defeats and lack of effort by a number of players were the key factors. The Accrington defeat at home was a real low point.

Hopefully a season on, Stuart has learnt more about being a manager and will apply this next season.

A frighteningly cold day at Macclesfield saw us triumph 1-0 with a goal by the "small boy" Brown and a fantastic penalty double save by Scott Loach.

We had an excellent weekend trip to see City play at Brentford - a 2-2 draw but that did not really seem to matter too much amidst the banter, beer and fun. Also a great day out at Darlo in pouring rain. A great pub pre match and an excellent second half to see us win.

Colbeck has been outstanding in the second half of the season and deserved his Player of the Season Award. Then he goes and spoils it all by being sent off in the last home game for a silly, petulant retaliation. Hopefully he will learn and become more mature. He remains a great prospect and I doubt if we will be able to hang onto him. Medley scored a great goal early season but has not really had the opportunity to develop. Scott Loach looked like a proper keeper after Donovan Ricketts but had his moements and goes back to Watford after his loan. Big Bazza Conlon gets another season and Kyle Nix deserves another season for his effort and commitment. Omar Daley remains an enigma - brilliant and wayward - no consistency.

Young Ben made his debut at VP aged two and a half and saw us beat mighty Morecambe. Excellent debut for the young man.

Finally it was the end for big Dave Wetherall. A great servant for the club and totally committed to the end. Thank you Dave - the goal against Liverpool will be remembered for ever! Just hope you can use your experience to bolster the coaching side.

Roll on next season!
